The overall goal is to update NWT forest management legislation including the Forest Management Act, the Forest Protection Act and associated regulations as needed, and develop policy for forest resources management. This project will focus on Phase 1, developing a framework and action plan for creating the new legislation and policy. The framework should identify the goals and objectives to be achieved. Where appropriate, options to legislative or policy approaches to accomplish the objectives may be identified. No re-writes of existing policies and legislation will be included in Phase 1 of the project. The development of new policy and legislation will be carried out as a separate phase of the project.
