Grizzly bear habitat and population analysis
Event/Procurement ID: PM002876
This procurement was awarded.
Description
In collaboration with the GNWT, analyze existing GPS data obtained in the Lac de Gras region in order to assess how female bears utilize available habitat at a fine scale (third-order selection) and possible responses to resource development activities. Evaluate the likelihood of adverse cumulative effects on grizzly bear populations on the central barrens, and develop a quantitative threshold of allowable bear mortality for use as an indicator of likely significance for future Environmental Assessments. Building on the design options being considered to estimate grizzly bear abundance in the Mackenzie Delta, develop a set of procedures for monitoring grizzly bear abundance at the Snap Lake Diamond Project and pending new developments on the central barrens.
