The Department of Education, Culture and Employment, Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre (PWNHC) is once again participating in the national Historic Places Initiative. The Initiative aims to foster greater appreciation of Canadian historic places, to develop appropriate measures to encourage their conservation, and to promote rehabilitation and maintenance of these places through financial incentives. As part of the NWT Historic Places Initiative 2005/2006, the Department is seeking proposals from communities and cultural organizations to continue research, documentation, and conservation activities commenced in 2004. Only five (5) projects will receive funding under the NWT Historic Places Initiative 2005/2006.
